Clean your face naturally with oil

I’m coming to you today with a challenge I've been on for the past 4 months. I've noticed a significant improvement in my skin since I started these treatments on a regular basis. This treatment known as ‘the oil cleansing method’.

What is the Oil Cleansing Method?

The oil cleansing method is actually a process of mixing two oils, castor oil and any other natural oil of your choice and using this oil mix only to cleanse your face. You rub a dime size of the oil in your palms to warm it and then spread it on to your face massaging it in. The process of massaging the oil into your skin loosens the dirt and impurities that are stuck in your pores. Once you've finished with the massage, you let the oil sit for a couple of minutes. You then take a face towel and soak it in hot water (comfortable to touch, not scalding hot!) and wring out the excess water. Place the hot towel on your face, the steam will open up your pores allowing the oil (castor oil) to draw out the impurities from your skin. The best part is it’s all natural and gentle on the skin.

What Kind of Oil to Use?

Avocado: For dry and or aging skin.

Olive Oil: very light and good for all skin type

Jojoba: Great all around oil for all skin types.

Almond: All skin types but especially for oily skin.

Sunflower Seed: All skin types, with the benefit of additional Vitamin E which protects and repairs your skin.

Castor Oil: The most cleansing and antibacterial but can be drying. You want to mix castor oil with one of the above ‘carrier oils’.

Here’s the mixing ratio for different skin types:
  • Oily skin: 30% castor oil to 70% second oil of choice
  • Normal skin: 20% castor oil to 80% second oil of choice
  • Dry skin: 10% castor oil to 90% second oil of choice
If your skin feels dry after cleansing, try reducing the castor oil in your mix. You can also use 2 to 3 drops of the mixture as a moisturizer.

What you’ll need
Here’s what you’ll need if you’re going for oil cleansing:
1.    Castor Oil
2.    Second oil of choice (olive oil in my case)
3.    Face towel
4.    Hot water
5.     Bowl

What to Do:

Rinse your face in cool water. Pick the type of oil that works the best for you, and massage about 1-2 Teaspoons into your face for 4 to 5 minutes, Place a warm face towel over your face, hold there for a few seconds and then begin to gently wipe off the oil. This always leaves my face soft, moisturized, and glowing.

The star of this cleanser is the Castor Oil. Many of us may know it as a laxative but castor oil has been known from time immemorial for its healing and cleansing properties. Castor oil is very thick in consistency and will actually leave your skin feeling dry if you use too much of it in your oil mix.

I used a combination of castor and olive oil as my cleanser. I chose olive oil because it is the most readily available oil and this one is my favorite oil too. I used this at night. Right now I do it about 2 to 3 times a week which is fine for me.

Oil cleansing is suitable for all skin types.

One Important Note:

We all have different skin types and problems so it’s best to experiment with the oil ratios and different oils to determine what works best for you. As with natural skin care, results are not instant, expect 2 to 3 weeks of use before results start to show (took me a month of constant use before the dark circles around my eyes began to fade and my pimple marks also began to fade).
